Sophie Cunningham has gone viral again, but this time it has nothing to do with what she did on the basketball court.
Before a recent Indiana Fever game, Cunningham was having some fun with a camera when she briefly pulled down her track pants, revealing the compression shorts she was wearing underneath.
The clip has since blown up on social media, with one post from BrickCenter getting millions of views.
of course, people have opinions.
Some fans think Cunningham went too far and is bringing unnecessary attention to her body instead of her basketball ability. Personally, I think there’s an argument to be made on both sides.
Cunningham didn’t expose herself. She was wearing compression shorts underneath and appeared to just be having some fun with the camera. She’s also an adult and can express herself however she wants.
But I can understand the other side too.
There are a lot of young girls who go to WNBA games and look up to these players. Some of them want to be professional basketball players themselves one day. When you’re as popular as Cunningham has become, you have to realize that people are watching what you do.
That doesn’t mean she can’t have fun or show her personality. That’s part of what makes sports entertaining.
But there’s also a time and place for everything.
Was a WNBA game, with young fans in the crowd and cameras everywhere, the best place for this particular moment? I’m not sure.
At the end of the day, Cunningham didn’t do anything illegal, and she has every right to express herself.
But when you’re a professional athlete with a large platform, even something you see as a harmless joke can send a different message once millions of people see it.
So, did Sophie Cunningham cross the line?
I’ll let you decide.
