Hey fans, it’s Lane here again. It’s officially sink or swim time for the Toronto Blue Jays. With the postseason race coming down to the wire, every game from here on out could determine whether the Jays are playing October baseball or watching from home.
Three Crucial Games Against Texas
Coming off a stressful off-day on Thursday, the Jays are gearing up for the three most important games of their season, starting tonight against the Texas Rangers.
Coming into this crucial series, the Blue Jays find themselves sitting two spots out of the wild-card race, trailing both the Cleveland Guardians and the Rangers, who are fighting their own battles for postseason baseball.
With the Baltimore Orioles sitting just one game behind, the upcoming away series there will be another critical stretch that could define the team’s postseason destiny.
Momentum Stalls at Home
Looking back at their most recent six-game homestand, the momentum stalled after a promising start. While the team managed to take two out of three games from Baltimore, a tough series against the Detroit Tigers proved costly.
Coupled with hot streaks from the Cleveland Guardians, Chicago White Sox, and Texas Rangers, losing three of their last six games has tightened the pressure significantly on Toronto’s playoff hopes.
Cease and Soriano Take the Mound
The good news for Blue Jays fans heading into this pivotal series is that the team has its two best starters set to take the mound. Dylan Cease and José Soriano give Toronto a strong chance to secure at least two of the next three games.
However, all eyes will be on Cease, who needs to bounce back after two subpar performances.
All Eyes on Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Beyond the starting pitching, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. remains a major focal point. Despite connecting for his first home run at home, he still appears to be searching for that clutch consistency needed in high-pressure moments.
Watching the Wild-Card Race
All eyes will also be on the Cleveland Guardians, who are set to take on the Athletics. With the Athletics already eliminated, the Guardians, who are 4-2 in their last six games and rolling throughout September, will pose a serious threat.
The margin for error is incredibly slim. Beyond the current standings, the team holds no tiebreaker advantages against the Chicago White Sox or the Texas Rangers, making every victory absolutely paramount.
Will the Jays Hold Their Cards or Fold?
With six games remaining before their next off-day, leading into a final three-game homestand against the Cincinnati Reds, the time for hesitation is over.
Without securing two of three against the Texas Rangers, or even a sweep, the Blue Jays may find themselves folding their cards in Texas earlier than planned.
Will the Jays hold their cards, or will they fold them?
I’ll let you be the judge.
