The Toronto Blue Jays are right back in the playoff race, and now comes another major test.
After putting together one of their strongest stretches of baseball and sweeping the Seattle Mariners, Toronto enters a big series against the Cleveland Guardians with an opportunity to continue closing the gap in the American League playoff picture.
On the latest episode of The Analyst Desk, Jacob Moore and Lane Daschko broke down the Jays’ playoff push, the upcoming Cleveland series and some of the biggest questions surrounding the roster.
One of those questions is Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Guerrero has struggled offensively, leading to a debate about whether Toronto should temporarily move him down in the batting order. The idea would not be to remove Guerrero from the lineup, but instead take some pressure off him while he tries to rediscover his swing.
The Blue Jays are also dealing with a long list of injuries, making their recent run even more impressive.
Despite those concerns, Toronto has put itself back into the conversation. Now it needs to keep winning.
Jacob predicted the Blue Jays would take two of three games against Cleveland, while Lane went the other direction and picked the Guardians to win the series.
Either way, the message is simple: the Blue Jays have given themselves a chance. Now the games on the field will decide whether this playoff push is for real.
