The 2026 OUA football season reaches Week 3 this weekend, and the conference schedule features five games on Saturday, September 12.
With the opening two weeks in the books, the standings are already beginning to take shape. McMaster and Ottawa enter the weekend unbeaten at 2-0, while Western will play its first conference game of the season. Queen’s will also make its home debut after opening the year with a road victory over Toronto.
Meanwhile, several teams will be looking to bounce back after difficult Week 2 performances.
Here is a look at all five Week 3 matchups.
McMaster Marauders at York Lions
Saturday, September 12 — 1:00 p.m. — York Lions Stadium
The McMaster Marauders head to Toronto looking to remain perfect after opening the season with consecutive victories over Windsor and Guelph.
McMaster enters Week 3 at 2-0 following a convincing 20-11 victory over the Gryphons. The Marauders’ defence was the story of the afternoon, recording six sacks and limiting Guelph to just 12 first downs. Ryan Broome led the way with three sacks, while Christian Chukwuali II added two.
Quarterback Lucas Barresi has also provided a steady presence for McMaster’s offence. After rushing for two touchdowns in the season-opening comeback against Windsor, Barresi helped the Marauders control the game against Guelph.
York comes into the matchup at 1-1. The Lions opened the season with a dramatic 35-34 victory over Carleton before running into a Western buzzsaw in Week 2, falling 78-7.
The big question for York will be whether it can regroup defensively after allowing 78 points against Western.
For McMaster, the formula should remain simple: establish the run, protect Barresi and allow the defence to dictate the game.
Prediction: McMaster 30, York 17
McMaster has shown more consistency through the first two weeks, and the Marauders’ defence could be the difference once again.
Carleton Ravens at Guelph Gryphons
Saturday, September 12 — 1:00 p.m. — Alumni Stadium
Both Carleton and Guelph will be searching for a much-needed victory when they meet in Guelph.
The Ravens enter Week 3 after splitting their opening two games. Carleton opened the season with a heartbreaking 35-34 loss to York before bouncing back against Waterloo in Week 2.
Guelph, meanwhile, is still searching for its first victory. The Gryphons opened the season with a narrow loss to Laurier before falling 20-11 to McMaster.
The matchup represents an important opportunity for Guelph. The Gryphons have shown flashes offensively, but McMaster’s defence exposed some issues last weekend.
Guelph will need to find a way to generate more sustained drives while limiting Carleton’s ability to control the clock.
Carleton has already demonstrated that it can score points, but consistency will be critical against a Guelph team playing at home.
Prediction: Guelph 27, Carleton 24
This could be one of the closest games of the weekend, with home-field advantage giving the Gryphons the edge.
Ottawa Gee-Gees at Laurier Golden Hawks
Saturday, September 12 — 1:00 p.m. — University Stadium
The Ottawa Gee-Gees travel to Waterloo looking to remain undefeated against a Laurier team coming off a shocking Week 2 loss.
Ottawa is 2-0 after opening the season with victories over Waterloo and Toronto. The Gee-Gees have been one of the conference’s most impressive teams through the opening two weeks and currently sit near the top of the OUA standings.
Laurier enters at 1-1 after its remarkable 17-game regular-season winning streak came to an end against Windsor.
The Golden Hawks led 21-16 at halftime and received four touchdown passes from quarterback Will Russell, but Windsor’s rushing attack ultimately proved too much. The Lancers finished with 453 rushing yards and four touchdowns in the 48-37 victory.
Laurier now faces another major test.
Ottawa has the talent to take advantage of defensive weaknesses, but Laurier should be motivated to respond immediately after its first regular-season loss since 2023.
Prediction: Ottawa 34, Laurier 30
Expect another high-scoring affair. Laurier should make this interesting, but Ottawa’s early-season momentum gives the Gee-Gees a slight advantage.
Western Mustangs at Windsor Lancers
Saturday, September 12 — 1:00 p.m. — Alumni Stadium
One of the most intriguing games of Week 3 takes place in Windsor as the undefeated Western Mustangs visit the 1-1 Lancers.
Western finally opened its 2026 season last weekend and did so in spectacular fashion, destroying York 78-7. The Mustangs scored 17 points in the first quarter, 21 in the second, 21 in the third and another 19 in the fourth.
Windsor, meanwhile, enters with plenty of confidence after its 48-37 upset of Laurier.
The Lancers’ rushing attack was outstanding against the Golden Hawks, producing 453 yards and four touchdowns.
That rushing attack could be extremely important against Western.
The Mustangs have already demonstrated their ability to overwhelm an opponent, but Windsor presents a much more difficult challenge than York did last weekend.
The Lancers also have some recent confidence against Western. Windsor’s defence held the Mustangs without a touchdown in last year’s matchup, although Western ultimately won the game.
This could be one of the weekend’s most physical contests.
Prediction: Western 34, Windsor 24
Windsor should keep this much closer than Western’s opener, but the Mustangs’ overall talent gives them the edge.
Waterloo Warriors at Queen’s Gaels
Saturday, September 12 — 5:00 p.m. — Richardson Stadium
The final OUA game of the weekend takes place under the lights in Kingston as the Waterloo Warriors visit the defending Yates Cup champion Queen’s Gaels.
For Queen’s, this game marks the team’s 2026 home opener.
The Gaels opened their season with a 28-12 victory over Toronto on August 30 before having a Week 2 bye. Queen’s used its defence to shut down the Varsity Blues and will now look to carry that momentum into Richardson Stadium.
Waterloo, meanwhile, has already played twice and enters the matchup still searching for its first win.
The Warriors opened the season against Ottawa before facing Carleton in Week 2. They will have their hands full against a Queen’s team that has had extra time to prepare.
The defending Yates Cup champions also know how important a strong start can be in an eight-game conference schedule.
Prediction: Queen’s 31, Waterloo 14
Queen’s should be rested and ready for its home opener. Waterloo will need to play a near-perfect game to pull off the upset.
Week 3 Storylines to Watch
Can McMaster stay perfect?
The Marauders are one of only two OUA teams entering Week 3 with a 2-0 record. After beating Windsor and Guelph, McMaster has demonstrated that it can win games in different ways.
The defence has been particularly impressive, allowing just 37 points through two games.
A victory over York would move McMaster to 3-0 and put the Marauders in an excellent position heading into their September 19 home matchup against Laurier.
How will Laurier respond?
The Golden Hawks went from a 17-game regular-season winning streak to a 48-37 loss against Windsor.
Now they face another undefeated opponent.
Saturday’s game against Ottawa could tell us a lot about whether Laurier’s Week 2 loss was simply a bad night or a sign of bigger defensive concerns.
Is Windsor ready to challenge the top teams?
The Lancers already have one impressive win on their resume after knocking off Laurier.
Now they get Western at home.
A Windsor victory would immediately establish the Lancers as one of the most dangerous teams in the conference.
Queen’s begins its title defence at home
After winning the 2025 Yates Cup, Queen’s enters 2026 with championship expectations.
The Gaels have already taken care of Toronto. Now they get their home opener against Waterloo.
A convincing victory would send another message that Queen’s remains one of the teams to beat in the OUA.
Week 3 could provide another major shake-up in the OUA standings. With McMaster and Ottawa trying to remain undefeated, Laurier and Windsor looking to establish themselves as contenders, and Queen’s beginning its championship defence at home, Saturday’s five-game slate should provide plenty of answers as the 2026 season moves forward.
