Toronto Argonauts release rookie kicker Brady Lidster

The Toronto Argonauts are making a change at kicker, releasing rookie Brady Lidster after he filled in for the injured Lirim Hajrullahu over the last few weeks.

Lidster struggled with consistency during his time with the Argos, going 15-for-21 on field goals for 71.4%. He did show he has the leg, hitting from over 50 yards, but Toronto clearly feels it needs more consistency at the position.

With Lidster gone, the big question is who the Argos turn to next.

So who will be the Argos kicker?

The easiest answer would be Lirim Hajrullahu returning from injury. Toronto doesn’t currently have another kicker waiting on the practice roster, which could be another sign that Hajrullahu is expected to return Monday. But if he isn’t ready to go, could Toronto look to the trade market?

Calgary could be an interesting team to call. With Rene Paredes back and Jude McAtamney also on the roster, the Stampeders have options at kicker. Could Toronto try to pry one of them away for the stretch run?

Ottawa could also be worth a call. The Redblacks’ season has not gone the way they hoped, and with the playoffs looking like they are not happening, they could be willing to move some pieces for picks or younger assets. Brett Lauther is a name I would keep an eye on if he becomes available. Toronto is trying to win now, and adding an experienced CFL kicker could make a lot more sense than taking another chance on a rookie.

If Hajrullahu isn’t ready, I wouldn’t be surprised if Toronto starts making some calls.
